About

Tarora is a private estate located in New Zealand’s South Island, nestled on the edge of Te Wahipounamu, a UNESCO World Heritage Location and surrounded by 2.6 million hectares of untouched, virgin forest.

Organic Land

Boasting over one-thousand hectares, Tarora has been a BioGro certified organic property since 2006. Everything sourced from Tarora land, from livestock to produce to water, is of the highest organic standard and provides abundant nutrition and support for healthy living.

Clean Air

The Southern Hemisphere is known around the world as “the cleaner half,” with only 10% of the world’s population, minimal industry, and a protective boundary called the “chemical equator” that prevents pollution from crossing over from the Northern Hemisphere.

From within the Southern Hemisphere, the South Island of New Zealand has been voted among the ‘Top-10 World’s Cleanest Air Destinations,’ with wind currents originating from the oceans around Antarctica and virtually no human activity. Tarora is located in the remote southwest corner of the South Island, surrounded by a total of 2.6 million hectares of untouched forest, making it the world’s ultimate clean air location.

Dark Sky

The South Island of New Zealand has the largest Dark Sky Reserve in the world, and the first and only Gold standard reserve.

Tarora’s vast night sky measures top-rated Dark Sky levels, allowing the surrounding ecosystems to thrive and promoting healthy and balanced animal and plant life.  This unmatched light-pollution-free night sky also allows human circadian rhythms to re-calibrate, encouraging health systems to rebalance naturally.
